Word Count Wednesday!
(It's still Wednesday, so this still counts.)
Last week I decided not to use the word count as my primary measuring stick for progress, noting however the desire to see that number inch higher and higher.
But I did set a goal of getting my MC back home for the incident which leads into the story’s main conflict.
So how’d I do?
That depends on how you look at it.
See, I haven’t written a single word in the manuscript or other related documents since last week.
Not a jot or a tittle.
Or for the visual learners...

I could blame my inactivity on jury duty, heading into Day Four of a three-day trial.
(No, that’s not a typo.)
I could cite the fun family events which absorbed most of my writing time last week.
I could also mention I have reached the end of my firstFanfiction and want to put it to bed properly.
But the simple, larger truth is I decided to take a break from writing the book.
Not from thinking about the book, talking to the characters, planning the story, or analyzing what I’ve written. In truth, during a siesta, I can better hear my MC’s voice, better tell where the story drags or needs embellishment. And armed with this intel, I’m better suited to improve the novel when I go back into it.
Sometime this weekend.

Goal for next week: Fix the first five chapters according to my original plan.
